Meadow Quartet
Meadow Quartet came into being in 2009 in Gdansk (Poland). The band tries to create the space, which can be diffused by influences of modern chamber music, jazz, improvised music and the most fundamental medium – traditional Jewish music. Meadow Quartet, at last, is an exciting challenge, its members are trying to follow the path which defies simple stylistic classification.
Meadow Quartet denotes four outstanding musicians – four instrumentalists, each inspired by one of the above type of music, but altogether Meadow Quartet are four, synergizing in musical performance, personalities.
The band has won the second prize at the 16th Festival of Polish Radio Nowa Tradycja (New Tradition) in 2013 and has participated in the events such as the International Jewish Music Festival in Amsterdam, Tzadik Poznan Festival, the Internationaler Hansetag in Lüneburg. Meadow Quartet at their concerts hosted valued musicians, including Jarosław Bester, Klaus Kugel, Tomas Dobrovolskis, Saulius Petreikis, furthermore band’s music was used in the movie Rosa Alba.
In February 2012, they released their debut album entitled Unexpected. The second album, The Erstwhile Heroes with the special guest – Lithuanian percussionist Tomas Dobrovolskis, was released in July 2013. Gazeta Wyborcza described it as one of the most interesting releases of the year 2013 in Poland. By the end of 2015 they released new album David & Goliath, which was recorded during Meadow Quartet & Klaus Kugel’s concert in Gdansk on April 10th 2015.
